Trouble keeps brewing for Lance Armstrong as continued reports of his doping emerge. 60 Minutes has uncovered a teammate who admits to doping and says he did so along with Armstrong.
Tyler Hamilton, 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, was interviewed for the segment. He said he doped as did Armstrong, using a blood booster called EPO in the 1999 Tour and before the race in 2000 and 2001. Armstrong won seven straight Tour De France races, from 1999-2005.
“I saw (EPO) in his refrigerator.. I saw him inject it more than one time, like we all did. Like I did, many, many times”, Hamilton says in the interview.
As a consequence of Hamilton’s 60 Minutes interview and admission he willing turned in his gold medal. His attorney has said he did it before being asked for it so it would not stir more controversy.
Armstrong immediately set up a website that refutes the allegations. Saying, “20+ year career, 500 drug controls worldwide, in and out of competition. Never a failed test. I rest my case.”
The federal investigation continues into whether Armstrong and his team did run a systematic doping program. There’s no word on when the investigation will wrap up.
